Pumps for Beverages: Try Progressing Cavity Pumps from KNOLL

2010-08-04

In the beverage industry, the requirements to pump liquids can vary a lot. From the drain in the supply of raw materials to bottling the finished beverage pumps play an important role, and by far not everything is completely liquid, which they transfer.

The MX by KNOLL Maschinenbau can be used for various purposes by their design as progressing cavity pump and thus it has already convinced some of the leading manufacturers in the beverage industry. In particular, this pump is suitable as a transfer or metering pump. In addition it can also be used as a booster pump.

A strength of the MX is the unloading of vehicles, for example when raw materials are delivered. In this work, the pump can both be permanently installed as well as applied in a mobile version. By its very flexible capacity of 5 – 200.000 liters per hour, it can be adapted to virtually any deployment scenario. Their short length and high suction power of up to 0.2 bar are highlights as well.

Another strength of the MX-Pump lies in its ability to promote the processing of fruits or vegetables, especially when viscous residue (such as pomace) has to be transported quickly and reliably. In particular, the MX-Pump can be applied in a hopper version (as shown here). Pomace (marc) that practically doesn’t flow any more is no problem for this pump.

Another field for the MX in the beverage industry is the area of injection, when color or flavoring agents must be added. Here it depends on very exact amounts and the MX can help with its different sizes, ranging from very small versions up to the large ones (for example the MX100).

Of course hygiene is a very important factor in the beverage industry, as it is in cosmetics or the production of chocolate. Progressing cavity pumps by KNOLL therefor have a special “low clearance volume” design and hygiene aspects are implemented consistently (CIP and SIP cleaning is possible). They can be quickly disassembled and reassembled, and of course the MX meets all the requirements of the current pump materials 3A, EHEDG and FDA.

One last important point in the manufacture of beverages: the MX stands for a gentle transport and low pulsation of the products, as well as a short residence time of media in the pump. Of course beverages can be pumped or mixed by in both cold and hot.
